The Cost of TV Advertising

Believe it or not TV advertising is brilliant value. There is a perception that advertising on Television is expensive but guess what, it isn’t as expensive as you think. Lets look at the cost of TV advertising.

Value isn’t measured on just the cost of the campaign, it’s also measured on the results. It doesn’t matter how low the initial spend is - if it doesn’t provide a return then that spend becomes very expensive.

TV is seven times cheaper than social media video advertising such as YouTube and the Meta platforms. Forget the physical costs for a second, a powerful benefit is that people are actually paying attention to television ads. TV has high ad completion rates - we’ve all done it, when watching YouTube we’ve stared at the bottom right corner of the screen waiting to skip the ad. The yellow wheel has achieved much more of our attention than the ad playing ‘in the background’.

Television also boasts full screen viewing and is both high quality and brand safe content. This means that advertising isn’t tainted by questionable content. TV is also watched with others, discussed and enjoyed in communal conversation, highlighting that people are watching and sharing rather than swiping and scrolling.

All of these factors have an impact on effectiveness but lets return to the numbers for a second. TV is the lowest priced video channel at £7.32 for a 30 second ad compared to £52.59 for social media video for the same duration. So TV advertising isn’t just for those that possess huge budgets. Some advertisers will spend as little as £10,000 or even £5,000.
